Fresher: what changes

A B.Com fresher aiming at bank, NBFC or back-office jobs is read for accuracy with documents, comfort with Tally and Excel, and any sign that you have handled money or records. The page is one sheet: marks, a short internship, a committee role and a project, each with a number. The next level swaps all of that for volumes processed, turnaround and error rates.

First thing a reader checks: Accuracy with documents: KYC checks, forms and entries. Banks, NBFCs and back-office teams usually value a clean error record above speed at the start.

2 to 5 years: what changes

At two to five years a B.Com graduate in bank, NBFC or insurer operations is read through volumes, turnaround and accuracy: files processed a day, the time from login to hand-off, and the error rate on audits. College marks and certificates come off, and the summary names a senior processing, operations or quality role.

First thing a reader checks: Volumes per day or week, the product type and turnaround. 'Processed 55 loan applications a day' is a line a hiring manager can picture.

5+ years: what changes

By five years a B.Com graduate in bank or NBFC operations is read for span and control: team size, monthly volume, turnaround, audit findings and the money you manage. Processing duties drop off the page, and the summary asks for a manager or head-of-operations role.

First thing a reader checks: Span: team size, files or accounts per month and branches covered, in one line near the top.
