B.Com Graduate resume for freshers: a sample from India
A B.Com fresher aiming at bank, NBFC or back-office jobs is read for accuracy with documents, comfort with Tally and Excel, and any sign that you have handled money or records. The page is one sheet: marks, a short internship, a committee role and a project, each with a number. The next level swaps all of that for volumes processed, turnaround and error rates.

Summary examples for a fresher
Two ways to open the page. Neither is the summary on the sample resume beside it, so you can see more than one approach.

Bullet rewrites, weak to strong
Each pair shows a line people really write and a stronger version of the same fact. The numbers are illustrations. If you have no number, see resume bullets with numbers when you have none.
- Before
Knows accounting
AfterCompleted Tally Prime and GST certification and prepared mock books, GSTR-3B and TDS computations for 5 case companies in coursework
WhyReplaces a claim with a certificate and a body of practice work. The count of case companies tells the reader how much you actually did.
- Before
Was in college committee
AfterManaged a ₹1.6 L annual budget for 8 events as Treasurer of the Commerce Association and shared audited accounts with 600 members
WhyA budget in rupees, a count of events and an audience for the accounts show that you were trusted with money. 'Was in' shows none of it.
- Before
Did internship at bank
AfterGuided 40+ walk-in customers a day on account-opening and passbook-update forms during a 4-week branch internship
WhyNames the tasks and the daily load. For a customer-facing operations job this shows service as well as paperwork.
- Before
Did ratio analysis project
AfterCalculated liquidity, debt and profitability ratios for 3 listed manufacturers over 5 years in Excel and presented a 10-slide comparison to a faculty panel
WhyNames the ratio types, the companies and years, the tool and the audience. A graded panel presentation is as close to work output as a project gets.
- Before
Good at Excel
AfterBuilt an Excel tracker with lookups and pivot tables for 320 society members' fee payments, cutting weekly follow-up from 3 hours to 30 minutes
WhyNames the functions and the saving. 'Good at' cannot be checked; 3 hours down to 30 minutes can.
- Before
Worked in a team on college fest
AfterRaised ₹75,000 in sponsorship from 6 local businesses as sponsorship lead for the college fest, against a target of ₹50,000
WhyMoney raised, number of sponsors and the target. Beating a target is a result that any employer reads the same way.
Skills to list, grouped
Group skills into three or four lines and keep only those you could discuss for ten minutes. Each should appear in a bullet, a project or a certificate.
- Accounting: Tally Prime, GST basics, Journal and ledger entries, Bank reconciliation
- Operations: KYC checks, Data entry, Cash handling, Document verification
- Analysis and tools: MS Excel, Ratio analysis, Pivot tables
What recruiters for this role tend to look for
- Accuracy with documents: KYC checks, forms and entries. Banks, NBFCs and back-office teams usually value a clean error record above speed at the start.
- A named tool and a certificate with a year: Tally Prime, GST and Excel. Recruiters tend to read them as a sign that you will need less training.
- Money or records handled in a small way: a treasurer role, a fee register or a cash book, with a rupee figure and a member count.
- A project with real numbers (annual reports, mock books) and a result, since it is the closest thing to work experience a fresher has.
- Communication shown through what you did, such as guiding walk-in customers or presenting to a panel, rather than the phrase itself.
Mistakes common at this level
- Listing 'MS Office' as a skill with no task. Say what you did in Excel (lookups, pivot tables) and for how many records.
- Writing 'Treasurer' with no money figure. A role with no budget, event count or member count says nothing about trust.
- Adding every certificate from every online course. Keep the two or three that match banking, accounts or operations jobs.
Section order on the sample
The sample uses the Fresher First template, A4 (210 by 297 mm), one column, with the sections in this order: Summary, Education, Projects, Skills, Experience, Certifications, Achievements. The order follows the level: education and projects lead because there is little job history yet.
Questions people ask
How is a B.Com graduate resume different from an accountant resume?
A B.Com page for bank, NBFC and back-office jobs leans on accuracy, KYC, documentation and service, with Tally and Excel as supporting tools. An accountant page leads with ledgers, returns and reconciliations. See the Accountant fresher example for the accounts-first version.
Do I need an internship to apply for bank or NBFC operations roles?
It helps but is not essential. Without one, lead with a certificate, a committee role with money handled and a project with real data. State clearly what you did and for how many records or people.
How should I show a treasurer or committee role?
Give the budget, the number of events and members, and what you produced, such as audited accounts or a fee tracker. Put it under Achievements and keep it to one or two lines so the internship stays the main item. Resume format for freshers shows where it sits.
