Chartered Accountant (CA) resume with 5+ years of experience: a sample from India

At five or more years a CA resume is read for control and scale: team size, entities and turnover covered, how fast you close and report, and how audits and transformations went on your watch. The reader expects two employers described through decisions and outcomes, not a list of ledgers handled. Compared with the two to five year page, your own tasks shrink to one line and the team, the timelines and the controls take the space.

Bullet rewrites, weak to strong

Each pair shows a line people really write and a stronger version of the same fact. The numbers are illustrations. If you have no number, see resume bullets with numbers when you have none.

  1. Before

    Handled month-end closing

    After

Reduced a 6-entity month-end close from 10 to 6 working days by standardising 55 journal templates and automating intercompany matching

    Why

Entity count, before and after, and the two changes behind it. Close time is how a controller is measured.

  2. Before

    Managed team of accountants

    After

Restructured a 30-member finance team into 3 process pods with named owners, cutting hand-off errors from 140 to 45 a quarter

    Why

A structural decision, who owned what, and an error count before and after. People-management lines count only when something measurable changed.

  3. Before

    Handled statutory audit

    After

Ran the statutory audit calendar for 5 entities with 2 audit firms, delivering signed accounts 9 days before the lender deadline in each of the last 2 years

    Why

Entities, audit firms and a timing result against a deadline. Statutory audit leadership is shown by when the accounts were signed.

  4. Before

    Worked on finance transformation

    After

Led the rollout of automated bank reconciliation across 14 accounts and 3 entities, reducing monthly effort from 160 to 40 hours and unmatched items from 900 to under 150

    Why

Scope, hours before and after and a quality measure. Finance transformation needs two numbers: effort and accuracy.

  5. Before

    Cost saving initiatives

    After

Delivered ₹3.6 Cr of annual savings by moving payroll accounting and vendor onboarding to a shared-services team and renegotiating 2 software contracts

    Why

A rupee total with the decisions that produced it. Mention who signed the savings off if asked.

  6. Before

    Worked with global stakeholders

    After

Introduced a monthly variance review with 6 regional finance heads in 3 time zones; forecast accuracy improved from 82% to 93% in 4 quarters

    Why

Shows global-stakeholder work as a routine and a result: who was in the room, how often and what improved.

Skills to list, grouped

Group skills into three or four lines and keep only those you could discuss for ten minutes. Each should appear in a bullet, a project or a certificate.

  • Finance operations: Record to Report, Consolidation, Working Capital, Bank Reconciliation
  • Reporting and control: Ind AS, IFRS, Internal Audit, Internal Controls
  • Systems and leadership: SAP, Finance Transformation, Stakeholder Management, Team Leadership

What recruiters for this role tend to look for

  • Team size, entities and turnover covered, in the first bullet of each role.
  • Reporting and close timelines with a before and an after, and who set the target.
  • Audit outcomes: observations closed, repeat findings and the dates statutory accounts were signed, without listing rules.
  • Transformation results in two numbers: hours or cost saved, and an error or quality measure.
  • People outcomes: promotions, attrition and the shape of the team you built.

Mistakes common at this level

  • Task lists copied from a job description ('prepare financial statements, handle audits, manage a team'). Replace each with a timeline, a count or a rupee value.
  • Quoting regulations and standards in detail to sound senior. Name the framework once (Ind AS or IFRS) and let results do the rest.
  • Three pages. A senior CA resume works on one or two, with the latest role taking the most room.

Section order on the sample

The sample uses the Experienced Impact template, A4 (210 by 297 mm), one column, with the sections in this order: Summary, Skills, Experience, Certifications, Education. The order follows the level: experience leads, with fewer and sharper entries.

Questions people ask

Should a senior CA list articleship and school marks?

No. Keep the CA line with the qualification and the month, then the graduation line. Articleship and school marks stop helping once you have a decade of work; use the space for results from the last two roles.

How do I show a move from practice to a GCC finance role?

State the move in the summary, then show process ownership in the bullets: entities, team size, timelines and controls. Use the vocabulary of the target role, such as record to report or consolidation, only for work you have done. See ATS-friendly resume format for headings.

Can I add a CA membership number?

Leave identification numbers off the resume. Employers usually verify credentials separately at the offer stage, and numbers on a resume invite misuse. The qualification line with the month is enough.
