Civil Engineer resume with 5+ years of experience: a sample from India
At this level a civil resume is read for scale and control: project value in rupees, number of sites, team size, how closely you kept to the schedule and what happened to cost and safety. The reader expects two or three projects described through decisions, not a log of every site. Compared with the two to five year page, tools and measurements shrink, and delivery, contracts and people take their place.

Summary examples for 5+ years of experience
Two ways to open the page. Neither is the summary on the sample resume beside it, so you can see more than one approach.

Bullet rewrites, weak to strong
Each pair shows a line people really write and a stronger version of the same fact. The numbers are illustrations. If you have no number, see resume bullets with numbers when you have none.
- Before
Managed projects
AfterManaged 3 concurrent sites worth ₹140 Cr with 6 site managers; delivered 2 handovers on or before the contract date and the third within 3 weeks
WhyNumber of sites, total value, managers under you and delivery against the contract date. 'Managed projects' leaves out all four.
- Before
Cost control
AfterReduced material cost on a ₹70 Cr tower by ₹3.2 Cr (4.6%) by placing 3 bulk orders for cement and steel and moving two packages from item rate to lump sum
WhyRupees and percentage together, plus the two decisions behind them. At director-track level the reader is checking whether you made the call.
- Before
Handled subcontractors
AfterNegotiated and awarded 11 subcontract packages worth ₹48 Cr, saving ₹3.1 Cr against budget by taking at least 3 competitive quotes for each
WhyCount of packages, their value, the saving against budget and the process. Procurement discipline is part of the job at this level.
- Before
Improved site safety
AfterCut lost-time injuries from 4 to 0 over 2 years on a 500-worker site with daily toolbox talks, harness checks and a monthly mock audit
WhyStarting rate, end state, workforce size and routines. A zero needs a period and a headcount to mean anything.
- Before
Planning and scheduling
AfterIntroduced Primavera P6 baselines and weekly delay logs on 3 sites; schedule adherence rose from 71% to 90% in 12 months
WhyA control system and the measure it moved. Define schedule adherence in one clause if asked, for example milestones met on time.
- Before
Led site team
AfterLed a 52-member site and office team, ran weekly delivery reviews and developed 3 engineers into section heads within 4 years
WhyTeam size, a routine and a count of people who moved up. Leadership reads as a track record when others advanced.
Skills to list, grouped
Group skills into three or four lines and keep only those you could discuss for ten minutes. Each should appear in a bullet, a project or a certificate.
- Delivery: Project Management, Primavera P6, Project Planning, Contract Management
- Cost and commercial: Cost Control, Subcontract Negotiation, Claims Management
- Quality and safety: Quality Audits, Site Safety
- Leadership: Team Leadership, Mentoring
What recruiters for this role tend to look for
- Project value in rupees, built-up area and number of sites, in the first line of each role.
- Schedule adherence defined plainly (milestones met on time, handover against contract date) with a baseline and a period.
- Cost-control results as a percentage and a rupee figure, and the decisions behind them (packages, procurement, design changes).
- Safety, quality and customer-handover outcomes that show control of the whole site, not only progress.
- People: team size, engineers developed and the contractors you managed. Stability matters too, so keep dates in months and explain moves in one line.
Mistakes common at this level
- Project descriptions that list every tower, wing and amenity. Give value, area, your role and two results.
- Reporting savings as a percentage with no base, such as 'saved 10% of cost'. Say 10% of which budget, over which period.
- Hiding a gap or a short stint. One honest line works better than a vague date range.
Section order on the sample
The sample uses the Classic Single template, A4 (210 by 297 mm), one column, with the sections in this order: Summary, Experience, Skills, Education, Certifications. The order follows the level: experience leads, with fewer and sharper entries.
Questions people ask
How many projects should a senior civil resume list?
Two or three: the largest, the most recent and one that matches the job you want. Give each its value, area and your role in one line, then spend the bullets on results. Everything else can be a single line titled 'Other projects'.
Should I put the client or developer name?
Use the project type and value unless the client is public and your employer allows the name. Contract terms, margins and rates should stay off the resume. If you took a break between projects, career switch or gap year resume shows how to say so.
Does a PMP help on a civil resume?
It can help for project-management and multinational roles, but it does not replace delivery results. List it under certifications with the year, and let the bullets show the schedule and cost outcomes. Add only certificates you have completed.
