Resume for Amazon India: a product-company format built on scale and ownership

We have no verified details of Amazon's application process and we will not guess at one. This page covers what product companies in general read in an engineering resume: how big the thing was, what you owned and what changed because of you.

In short

  • We could not verify Amazon's current process, systems or tests. The advice is for product-company engineering applications in general.
  • Lead with scale and ownership: requests a day, users, latency, rupees saved, and the part that was yours.
  • Show links as visible text: GitHub, a deployed project, a coding profile.
  • One page. Drop school marks, languages, hobbies and any declaration.

What we know, and what we do not

What product-company readers look for

From the segment guidance in our research, product companies emphasise problem-solving, system design, ownership and measurable impact. On the page, that translates into bullets with scale (users, requests, latency, revenue), the stack used per project, links to code, and a single page. Treat this as the pattern across the segment, not as a checklist from any one employer.

Scale first, then ownership

A product-company bullet answers two questions quickly. How large was it, and which part was yours? A verb such as owned, designed, built or reduced makes the second answer clear. A number with its unit, such as requests a day or milliseconds at the 95th percentile, makes the first one checkable.

  1. Before

Worked on backend services for the coupon module

    After

Designed a rate limiter for a coupon API serving 600K calls a day, which stopped 3 abuse spikes in its first quarter

    Why

A named design, its scale and a result. 'Worked on' hides which part was yours.

  2. Before

    Improved performance of checkout

    After

Reduced p95 latency of the checkout API from 900 ms to 310 ms by replacing 4 sequential calls with 1 batched query

    Why

Percentile, before and after, and the technique used.

  3. Before

    Responsible for deployments

    After

Moved weekly releases to a canary rollout for 6 services, cutting failed-release rollbacks from 5 in a quarter to 1

    Why

Names the practice, the number of services and the effect on reliability.

  4. Before

    Cloud cost optimisation

    After

Cut monthly cloud spend by ₹2.1 L by shutting down 18 idle instances and moving cold data to cheaper storage

    Why

Rupees saved and the two actions that saved them.

Placement-preparation sites report that product companies and global centres ask for GitHub links, coding-profile scores and deployment URLs, so write them as visible text near the top. A repository with a clear README and a handful of real users is better evidence than a long list of languages. If you have an open-source contribution, give its scale as the project reports it, such as stars and dependants, and only when the repository page shows it.

One page, and what to drop

Our Product preset keeps a resume to one page up to about eight years of experience. It drops Class X and XII marks, languages, hobbies and any declaration, because product companies generally do not read them. Keep the summary to two or three lines naming your years, your stack and the kind of system you have owned. The wider rules are in ATS-friendly resume in India.

Honest numbers at scale

Large numbers draw questions. Be ready to say how you measured each one, what the baseline was and over what period. If the exact traffic is confidential, a range or a relative figure is fine, as in 'a service in the top three by traffic in the team'. If your system was small, say so honestly and give a per-user or per-unit result. A small real number with a clear method beats an inflated one that falls apart at the second question.

Before you submit: a short checklist

  • I read the current posting and careers page, not a forum summary of an old process.
  • Each bullet has a unit-bearing number and shows which part was mine.
  • GitHub, a deployed project or a coding profile appears as visible text.
  • Class X and XII, languages, hobbies and declaration are removed.
  • I can explain how every number was measured and what the baseline was.
  • One page, one column, standard headings.

Questions people ask

Does Amazon require a specific resume format?

We found no verified template. A single column, standard headings, one page and visible links serve any product-company application. Follow the posting if it gives instructions.

How do I show impact if my service had few users?

Give the real number and a per-unit result, such as time saved per request or errors per thousand. A small real figure with a clear method beats an invented large one.

Should I list a coding-profile rating?

Counts and ranks are fine when the linked profile shows them. Write the URL as visible text and leave out figures you would not want to defend.
