Resume for IT-services campus hiring: what TCS, Infosys and Wipro-style drives need
Mass-recruiter drives change their rules every year, so this page does not pretend to know this year's cutoff. It covers what stays true across drives and how to keep a resume from working against you.

In short
- Eligibility rules, test names and portals change every year. Read the official notice and ask your placement cell; this page covers what usually stays the same.
- These employers tend to screen on degree, marks and an online test first, so show Education early and make every mark match your marksheets.
- Keep one clean single-column resume. List only the skills you could be asked about in a technical round.
- The resume has to agree with the application form. Employers verify, and mismatches are checked, not ignored.
What this page can and cannot tell you
Students search for TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, HCLTech and Accenture more than any other campus names. Their eligibility rules, test names and application portals change from one hiring year to the next, and we could not confirm this year's details from company documents while writing this guide. So it makes no claim about a current cutoff, a test pattern or a portal.
How mass recruiters tend to screen
From the guidance we reviewed, large IT-services employers tend to screen first on degree, marks and an online aptitude or coding test, and they look for communication and trainable fundamentals more than deep specialisation. In many drives, then, the test score and the application form do most of the early filtering, and a person reads the resume at the interview. That is common, not universal. Treat it as likely, and do not conclude that the resume does not matter.
The practical conclusion is narrower. The resume must agree with the form you filled in, it must be easy for a parser to read, and it must survive a technical interviewer who picks one line and asks about it.
Marks come first, so show them early
Put Education directly after a two-line summary and give CGPA or percentage in a form a reader cannot misread: 'CGPA 7.9/10' or '71.5%'. Career sites commonly quote minimums for service companies of around 60% in Class X, Class XII and the degree, or a CGPA of about 6.0 to 6.5. Treat those as reported figures. The official notice is the only authority, and it changes.
If your marks sit below a number you saw online, read the actual notice before assuming you are out. Never round up a mark or alter a year. How to write marks and school lines is covered in CGPA vs percentage and school marks.
Make the resume agree with the form
Degree, branch, year of passing and every mark must match your marksheets and your application form exactly. Employers check. AuthBridge's report for the first half of FY26 found discrepancies in 4.33% of white-collar background checks overall and misrepresented resumes in 18.8% of IT and ITES cases. Those are one verification firm's figures from its own clients, but they explain why a small mismatch can cost an offer.
The structure that survives a keyword screen
- 01
Summary, then Education
Two lines of summary, then degree, college, years, CGPA and the Class XII and X lines if the form asks for them.
- 02
Skills in grouped lines
Languages, Core subjects such as data structures, OOP and DBMS, and Tools. Include only what you could answer questions on.
- 03
Projects with a stack line
Two or three projects, each with the stack, a number and an outcome. A deployed link helps.
- 04
Certifications that match the work
Cloud fundamentals, vendor certificates and NPTEL courses, each with issuer, year and tier if there is one. Three to five is enough.
- 05
Evidence of communication
Services employers look for it. Show it with a count: events run, participants, presentations given, a club you led.
Keywords: take them from the notice, then tell the truth
Read the notice or job description for the skills it names. Where you have a skill, use the notice's own word for it. Where you do not, leave it out. Any line on the page can become an interview question, and many drives include a technical round.
Showing a fundamental instead of naming it
- Before
Good knowledge of DBMS and SQL
AfterDesigned a 9-table MySQL schema for a college library system and wrote 30 queries, including joins and aggregates, to report overdue books
WhyA reader can ask about the schema. A claim of 'good knowledge' invites a quiz you may not want.
- Before
Strong communication skills
AfterPresented a final-year project to a 5-member faculty panel and ran 4 doubt-clearing sessions for 35 juniors in the coding club
WhyCommunication shown through counts of audiences and sessions, not announced.
What to leave out
Leave off the photo, date of birth, father's name and the declaration paragraph. The form collects what the employer needs, and the parser gains nothing from them. The reasoning, and the exceptions, are in what to remove from an Indian resume. Do not paste the company's name or a copied sentence from the notice into your summary either. Sameness is easy to spot.
Checklist for a campus-drive resume
- One page, one column, standard headings, text-based PDF under 1 MB.
- Degree, branch, year and every mark match your marksheets and the form.
- Skills lines contain only what you could be asked about, and each appears in a project or certificate.
- Projects carry a stack and a number; internships and certifications carry an issuer and a year.
- No photo, date of birth, father's name or declaration.
- You have read the current official notice, not last year's blog post.
Questions people ask
Which test names should I put on my resume?
Only a score or rank you actually hold, with the test name and year, listed under certifications or achievements. Do not list a test you are only planning to take.
Do I need a different resume for each company?
For campus drives one clean resume is usually enough. When a portal asks you to upload a resume for a specific role, tailor the summary and put the most relevant project first. Keep the facts identical everywhere, because employers compare.
My marks are below a figure I read online. Should I still apply?
Read the official notice for the current rule. If it asks for marks you do not have, applying may not help, and misstating a mark is a serious integrity problem. Look for employers whose notices fit your profile, and keep building projects.
Is a one-page resume essential?
For freshers, yes. One page is the norm in India, and a long resume buries the education and projects a screener wants first. The reasoning is in resume format for freshers.
Can I use the same resume for off-campus applications?
The same facts work, but you will need to find the posting and match its keywords honestly. Run the file through the ATS checker before uploading, since off-campus applications go through portals that parse the resume.
