Sales Executive resume with 5+ years of experience: a sample from India

At five years or more a sales head reads for scope and judgment: the team you led, the revenue it delivered against target, and the decisions on territory, pricing and hiring behind it. Personal selling numbers fade; team results, retention and a clear baseline carry the page.

Bullet rewrites, weak to strong

Each pair shows a line people really write and a stronger version of the same fact. The numbers are illustrations. If you have no number, see resume bullets with numbers when you have none.

  1. Before

    Managed a sales team

    After

Led a 14-member inside-sales team to ₹8.6 Cr in annual revenue (122% of target), with 11 of 14 reps above quota, up from 7 the year before

    Why

Team size, revenue against target and how many reps cleared quota. The spread across the team shows a manager who lifts people, not one star.

  2. Before

    Responsible for revenue growth

    After

Grew regional revenue from ₹6 Cr to ₹10.5 Cr in two years by opening Coimbatore and Kochi pods and a referral programme with 40 accountant partners

    Why

Before and after in rupees, the period and the two moves behind it. A manager is judged on decisions as well as on totals.

  3. Before

    Handled key accounts

    After

Managed 15 key accounts worth ₹2.4 Cr a year and kept gross renewal at 94%, including saving an ₹18 L account that had flagged service issues

    Why

Account count, annual value and renewal rate, with one rescued account as a story the interviewer can ask about.

  4. Before

    Did sales forecasting

    After

Forecasted quarterly revenue within 5% of actuals for six quarters using stage-weighted pipeline reviews every Monday

    Why

Accuracy over a period, with the method. Forecast accuracy is what finance and the sales head ask a manager about.

  5. Before

    Hired and trained team

    After

Hired 16 inside-sales executives in 12 months from 140 interviews and cut first-year attrition from 45% to 28% with structured onboarding

    Why

Hiring volume, the funnel behind it and the retention result. Attrition is the cost of hiring that goes wrong.

  6. Before

    Managed discounts

    After

Cut the average discount from 17% to 11% of list price with a deal-desk approval step above 10%, adding about ₹70 L a year in revenue

    Why

A margin-discipline result with a rupee estimate. Say how the figure was worked out: discount points saved multiplied by deal value.

Skills to list, grouped

Group skills into three or four lines and keep only those you could discuss for ten minutes. Each should appear in a bullet, a project or a certificate.

  • Leadership: Team management, Quota planning, Hiring and onboarding, Coaching
  • Revenue and accounts: Key account management, Renewals, Pricing and discounting, Forecasting
  • Systems: Salesforce, HubSpot, MS Excel

What recruiters for this role tend to look for

  • Revenue and target at the level you owned (team, region, area), with the baseline and the period.
  • Team size split by role (team leads, executives, field officers) and how many reps or officers cleared quota.
  • Decisions with a result: a new territory opened, a pricing rule changed, a hiring plan, a referral channel.
  • Account scope: key accounts or distributors managed, their value, and retention or collection numbers.
  • Forecast discipline: forecast accuracy, pipeline review cadence and attrition in your own team.

Mistakes common at this level

  • Listing team targets as personal ones. Write 'the region closed ₹15.9 Cr' when you led the team, not 'sold ₹15.9 Cr'.
  • A long list of past products and territories. Choose the two roles that show growth and compress the rest to a single line.
  • No people numbers. A manager resume with no team size, hires or attrition reads as a senior individual contributor.

Section order on the sample

The sample uses the Classic Single template, A4 (210 by 297 mm), one column, with the sections in this order: Summary, Experience, Skills, Education, Certifications, Achievements. The order follows the level: experience leads, with fewer and sharper entries.

Questions people ask

How do I credit team revenue without overclaiming?

Write the team result as the team's, for example 'the region closed ₹15.9 Cr', and add your own part separately: the hiring, the pricing rule or the key accounts you owned. Interviewers ask who did what, so keep every claim something you can walk through.

Do I still need a degree line, and does an MBA matter?

Keep the degree with college and year, since employers often verify it. An MBA helps for some roles but is not a rule; if you do not have one, let revenue and team results carry the page. School marks should be gone by now.

Can I include revenue numbers from my employer?

Use rounded figures you are comfortable sharing and avoid anything marked confidential. Percentages of target and growth rates are usually safe; if a number is sensitive, give the growth rate and leave out the rupee figure.
